Al’lawi: Time is not appropriate for the independence of Kurdistan


Deputy President of the Republic Iyad Al’lawi said on Saturday that the time is not appropriate to hold a referendum the right to self-determination in the independence of the Kurdistan region from Iraq. Al’lawi said in a press conference held today in Baghdad, “It is explicitly not his time now to hold the referendum, and we cherish the Kurdistan region as part of Iraq.

” He added that he must “we are serious dialogue with the brothers in Kurdistan on the referendum, and I will go there and met with the President of the Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani to discuss this matter.” Al’lawi said that “I wish that Iraq will remain united,” adding that “the legislation of the law of oil and gas will solve many of the problems and outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad.”

The ruling National Alliance Shiite ruling in Iraq has asked Al’lawi to open channels of dialogue and calm between Erbil and Baghdad.
