Finance Minister met with IMF, World Bank and U.S Treasury in Washington

The Iraqi Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari met with the U.S Secretary of Treasury Jack Lew. He stressed the importance of collaboration and cooperation between the two countries in the fight against financial corruption and money laundering.

The Iraqi Ministry of Finance issued a press statement that Iraqi Finance Minister and his delegation members met with the U.S Treasury Secretary and officials in the U.S Treasury in Washington. The Iraqi Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari emphasized on the cooperation between both sides especially to strengthen the relations in the field of economy and finance. The Secretary of U.S Treasury confirmed support of the United States for Iraq in order to strengthen the Iraq financially with the cooperation of international financial institutions.

The Iraqi Finance Minister and his delegation also met with a team of the World Bank and discussed on the financial arrangements. The World Bank showed their interest in providing soft loans to Iraq in order to support the Iraqi budget 2016 and manage other essential financial problems in the country. The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank confirmed their support in the demand of financial support in the coming meeting of finance ministers of Group Seven and also in the Summit meeting, which will be held in the first week of May 2016. The Iraqi Minister, the World Bank and the IMF agreed in the cooperation against financial corruption and money laundering. The Secretary of U.S Treasury confirmed support to stabilize the Iraqi economy and fight against terrorism.
