The Iraqi Foreign Ministry issued a statement that Iraq has demanded to shift Iraqi frozen money from the Swiss Banks to the Iraqi Development Fund. The statement indicated that Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari received the Swiss Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Yves Rossier and his delegation at the office of Foreign Ministry.
The Swiss Secretary of State and Iraqi Foreign Minister discussed on bilateral relations, and opening new ways for joint cooperation between both countries. The Swiss Official admired the unforgettable sacrifices by Iraqi people and Iraqi armed forces in the fight against terrorist groups and Daash organization. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari pointed out that Iraq is looking in building much better relations with many countries regarding the common interests and fight against international financial corruption.
Al-Jaafari stressed that Swiss government should transfer Iraqi frozen funds in the Swiss banks to Iraqi Development Fund. He added that Iraq needs significant support in various fields by the Swiss government. He said Iraq is in a state of war due to terrorism and needs handsome humanitarian aid, because the country has been experiencing various financial & economic challenges due to continuous decline in the global oil prices and heavy expenses in the war against terrorism. Al-Jaafari said that we have coordinated with one of the European embassies in Iraq in order to grant visit visa for Iraqi people that are wishing to visit Switzerland. He stressed the importance of signing the memorandum of understanding between both countries in various fields. The Swiss Secretary of State confirmed the support of his country regarding the frozen Iraqi funds and in providing humanitarian support for Iraq.
