Kuwait Rescheduled Payment Plan for Iraq



The Chairman of the Public Authority Management of Kuwait Khaled Al Mudhaf issued a statement for the assessment of reimbursement that Kuwaiti government has approved the request of Iraq to reschedule the remaining rectification amount of 4.6 billion U.S dollars till the month of January 2017.

Al Mudhaf further added in his statement that this compensation decision was made today in the 80th Governing Council session of the United Nations in Geneva. This approval took place in the circumstances of kindness by the State of Kuwait and considering the current Iraqi situation.

Al Mudhaf further explained that Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al Jaafari forwarded a letter of the Iraqi government on 2nd July 2015 to the First Deputy Prime Minister and Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah in which the government of Iraq requested to reschedule the payment plan of the remaining amount till the year 2017.

He also pointed out that Iraq needs support in the current situation from the Kuwaiti government and this decision has made without harming the resolutions of UN Security Council, but in consensus with the Iraqi government and their people. Point to be noted that Kuwaiti government has made this decision 2nd time, the first decision was made in the month of June 2014 for the first time to reschedule the payment plan for remaining amount till 2016 and now again rescheduled until 2017, for the best interest of Iraqi government and citizens.
