Kuwait will postpone the payment of debts: Zebari


The Iraqi government has requested to the government of Kuwait to pause the payment of war damages adjustments because Iraq has been experiencing heavy financial and economic crisis.

A statement issued by the Iraqi Finance Ministry that the Senior authority of Kuwait Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jabir Al-Sabah welcomed the Iraqi Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari and his delegation members at Salma Palace. The statement further indicated that Iraqi Finance Minister forwarded a request letter of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi to the Prince of Kuwait. A number of bilateral issues were discussed in the presence of Crown Prince of Kuwait Nawaf Al-Ahmed, Kuwaiti Prime Minister Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister of Kuwait Sabah Al-Khalid, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister, Finance and Oil Minister of Kuwait.

Muhammad Saleh also attended this meeting, he said that both sides discussed about the relations between Iraq and Kuwait. The Iraqi delegation informed about victories of Iraqi security forces to terminate Daash organization. Both sides stressed to activate cooperation of joint technical and ministerial committees to start the implementation of understanding of agreements between both countries. The Iraqi Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari confirmed the commitment of Iraqi government on all bilateral agreements between Iraq and Kuwait. He requested to postpone the payment of war damages because the heavy economic and financial crisis. This postponement is more essential due to Iraq has been made credit agreement recently with the International Monetary Fund. Zebari has disclosed current financial and security circumstances in Iraq.
